According to a report in the October issue of AARP Magazine, only 28 percent of people who donated their time at a school, hospital, or other nonprofit organization or participated in a club or social group in the past 12 months reported they were lonely. This compares with 41 percent loneliness for those who do not volunteer or belong to a social group. Volunteering and working with others for a common cause deepens relationships and increases a sense of belonging and satisfaction with life and self. Between 2007 and 2009, the average national volunteer rate for baby boomers was 29.7% (information from AARP newsletter”). Click Here to View our 2010 Multi-Year Report |
